The National Park is a natural preserve protected from all human influence and interference. It contains a rich and varied flora and fauna in their natural alpine habitat. The landscape is distinctly mountainous, with the highest peaks being the Piz Pisoc at 10,474 ft (3,174 m) and the Piz Quattervals at 10,408 ft (3,154 m). About 650 species of higher plant life (flowering plants) have been recorded in the park as well as more than 5,000 animal species.

The Segantini Museum, built in 1908, was designed by architect Nicolaus Hartmann to be a monument, an accessible memorial to the great artist, Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899), who spent the last 5 years of his life in the Engadine.

The museum has been accommodated in a house specially built for that purpose, reflecting the old architectural style of the Engadine. It offers an extensive insight into the living habits of times past. Among others it displays the wooden trough from the Bronze Age that used to hold the water of the mineral spring of St. Moritz.

Travel on the famous Swiss mountain railways from St.Moritz to Zermatt or from Piz Bernina to the Matterhorn. The world-famous, "slowest express train" is a 7 1/2 hour railway journey across 291 bridges through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass.
