In 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo landed at San Diego Bay. This marked the first time that a European expedition set foot on what eventually became the west coast of the United States. This Monument memorialized that accomplishment in 1913. The park offers a superb view of San Diego's harbor and skyline and at it's highest point stands the Old Point Loma Light-house, which has been a San Diego icon since 1854.
