The Kremlin has been and remains a unique monument of Russian culture and a symbol of Russian statehood. It has been the residence of the President since 1992. Its monumental walls and towers, golden-domed cathedrals and ancient palaces stand high above the Moskva River on the Borovitskiy Hill forming a magnificent architectural ensemble.

St. Basil's Cathedral is a delightful array of swirling colors and red brick towers. Its design is comprised of nine individual chapels, each topped with a unique onion dome. The church narrowly escaped destruction a number of times during the city's tumultuous history.

Although regarded as an awkward reminder of the communist past, Vladimir Lenin's Tomb still draws a steady stream of tourists. His embalmed body has been on public display there since he died in 1924. The tomb is open every day except Monday and Friday.

Moscow's "State Department Store", the largest department store in Moscow, nearly takes up the entire east side of Red Square and features an interesting elemental combination of Russian medieval architecture, steel framework and glass roof.
