Acapulco's central town square, shaded by giant rubber and mango trees, is a great place to mingle with the locals as they go about their daily life. The square is lined with ice cream stands and cafes and you may find a band concert at the music gazebo on Sunday.

Replacing the original 17th century fort that was damaged in an earthquake, this rebuilt fort turned museum shows the most relevant moments in Acapulco's history and the important role the fort has played. It is built in a classic five-point design and was constructed by the Spaniards to protect the port of Acapulco and its Manila trade link from pirates.

Hop on a glass bottom boat and head off to Isla la Roqueta, a great place for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and a hike to the hilltop of the island to get a spectacular view of Acapulco Bay. Along the way you can catch a view of a submerged and impressive statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe, placed there to protect all fishermen and others on the sea.

Brave young men dive over 100 feet from La Quebrada's perilous and jagged cliffs, timing their jump to coincide with the incoming waves that cushion their impact and protect them. This is perhaps Acapulco's most iconic attraction and a place that has come to symbolize the city itself. At night, the last divers carry lighted torches as they plunge into the water.
Mercado Municipal  
One of the greatest markets in Acapulco, this sprawling area draws locals and tourists alike to buy everything from food to crafts. It is open daily, but closes early in the afternoon.
